The earthquake today (11-November-2021) at 13:21 UTC with the magnitude of Mw5,2 seems to align it self with faults that are part of SISZ rather than being part of Hekla volcano system. The high frequency tone on 2 – 4Hz that I did see on few nearby SIL stations has started to lower again after the main earthquake. Earthquake activity in the area is currently dropping but it might increase again without warning.
It is not possible to know what happens next in this area. Historically the area can have earthquakes with magnitude up to Mw7,0 in size, but those are all from South Icelandic Seismic Zone (SISZ), rather than any active volcano in this area. This area is complex because of overlapping volcano system that often go on top of each other, along with the faults from SISZ. More earthquake activity from the fault that broke today or nearby fault should be expected in next few days to weeks.

Please remember to support me with donations. November has been rather broke on me because I had to do computer hardware renewal on three computers I have. Thanks for the support. 🙂

Because of Google Adsense requirements I had to install a consent form into this website to show advertisement. Because I am currently using the Advance Ads free, a reload is required to see the ads after people approve to ads. Having ads gives me little extra income (not much though) that helps me running this website and pay me something little extra. I plan on upgrading to a paid version of Advanced Ads in December that allows for auto loads of ads after approval is given for them. Thanks for understanding.
It seems that the Keilir area might be engaged in an EQ-battle with the Hekla area EQ burst – in terms of number rather than magnitude.
Large earthqakes in different locations.
Today has been busy.
