Due to family obligations I won’t be able to write a long post until Sunday (I hope). So here is a short overview of activity.
Hreppar micro-plate
A rare swarm of earthquakes took place on the Hreppar micro-plate today. All of the earthquakes had less magnitude than 1,0.

South Icelandic Seismic Zone
A swarm of earthquakes took place in SISZ this week. Largest earthquake had the magnitude of 2,5 and was felt in nearby populated areas.

Bárðarbunga volcano
Last week a magnitude 3,2 earthquake took place in Bárðarbunga volcano. This don’t appear to be deflation earthquakes, they rather look like inflation earthquakes. I don’t have time to write about it now, so details have to wait for now.

I hope to write more on Sunday if I have time.
Is something happening off the North coast?
Lots of quakes and a mag 3?
Well it is a fracture zone, but that said they are quite concentrated. Worth keeping an eye on.
Localised harmonic tremor pulse registered at VON station. This is very important. The signal could come from either Bardarbunga or perhaps Tungnafellsjokul.

Agreed, the show only stalled here, its far from over. I’ve been a tungsnafellsjokul watcher since the start of holuhraun as I firmly believe there to be a direct connection deep down. It will, when the time is right, find the easiest way up!
With you on that one Scots John. I’m convinced there was a dyke intrusion during the Holuraun phase.
I’m going to write about the earthquake swarm on TFZ tomorrow. Work finishes tomorrow so things are going to return to normal schedule then I hope. I’ve got few new problem that I’m going to comment on also if people want to help me dealing with them.
