The earthquake as recorded by my geophone (Hvammstangi 1).
The earthquake as it appeared in the program I use to monitor earthquakes.
According to the news rock fall happened in mountains when the largest earthquake took place. There is also a risk of stronger earthquake due this earthquake swarm location according to Icelandic Met Office. If a stronger earthquake happens the risk of rock fall is high.
19:26, M5.4, but it’s not yet manually checked, and the spike looks way bigger than the M5.2 earlier.
That was 5.6, but felt like a f……’ ragnarök up here in the north.
Jötunn, can I ask where in the north you are situated? Are you on Tröllaskagi?
Siglufjörður
It is getting even more intriguing and exciting with the most recent plus 5 magnitude EQ.
This is a test comment as I am trying to fix a bug I spotted in my setup.
A second test comment to see if I have fixed the email sending bug I discovered in my WordPress setup. Its a holdover bug from the setup process and should not be here.
Third comment to test to see if I have resolved this bug. So far I have not fixed it.
Final test because I think I have this email problem resolved.
Why is this area suffering d om all these strong earthquakes? Does it happen regularly?
It’s tectonic. Continental drift.
Large earthquake swarms like this one happen regularly in the Tjörnes Fracture Zone. What us unusual now is that its been a long time since a large earthquake took place in Tjörnes Fracture Zone and that increases the risk of strong earthquake (magnitude Mw7,1).
