Earthquake in Bárðarbunga volcano 15. February 2020

Today (15. February 2020) a magnitude Mw3,6 earthquake took place in Bárðarbunga volcano. There has not been any earthquake activity in this area since this earthquake took place.

This earthquake shows that Bárðarbunga volcano is slowly inflating again after the eruption in Holuhraun 2014 to 2015.

  1. There has been a small swarm under the Reykjanes Power Plant this morning 15. Feb. with nearly two green stars.
    M2,9 und M2,8 were detected.
    Tectonic stress release to the vicinity of the power plant by chance from Thorbjörn Event or power plant itself related?

  2. Just want to wish you good luck on your ongoing move back to Iceland, Jón. The timing could have been better, with the Northern Atlantic looking like one big storm vortex.
