Magnitude 3,5 earthquake in Bárðarbunga volcano

During the night of 16-December-2017 at 02:41 UTC an earthquake took place in close to central caldera of Bárðarbunga volcano. Depth of this earthquake was 11 km and no aftershocks followed this earthquake. Both location and lack of earthquakes following this earthquake is unusual.

I suspect there is now coming a time period of stronger earthquake activity in Bárðarbunga volcano, close to one that was earlier this autumn. When a earthquake with magnitude 4,7 happened.

  1. Much appreciated the new cauldron images, Jon. Thanks.

I plan to find an email of yours that will work with PayPal, If I can.

  2. Evidently PayPal doesn’t support the Icelandic currency. I am guessing your bank can sort out whether to use Denmark or German currency.

Anyway, Tis a token Merry CHRISTmas to you and those you Love.

Thanks for your efforts toward keeping us informed.

    1. It has been my observation that no bank or company outside of Iceland supports Icelandic Krona today. This is a permanent change after the economic collapse in 2008. I don’t think that is going to change in the future. That’s why I use euro as the main currency for donations (Denmark uses Danish Krona [DKK] with fixed rate to Euro).

      Thanks for the support. 🙂

  3. Hey Dave!
Find of the week! 🙂 Could only be days ago. When I was looking at that page before the weekend, there were only the wellknown cams.
    !!!GREAT!!! 🙂

  4. Well, well. Look what’s going on @ Bárðarbunga today! A 4.1 and a 4.4, followed by smaller aftershocks.

BTW, greetings from Kilauea, Hawaii. Kilauea was its usual tourist-friendly self, smoke drifting from the main caldera and small lava flows farther away at Pu’u o’o area (where they have been going on for years).

Now that I’m settled back at home, I’ll donate a little right away. : ) Thanks for keeping this informative site going and happy holidays (if you get any with all this activity in Iceland).
