Small glacier flood from Grímsfjall caldera lake

On the 18th of August 2016 a small glacier flood started from the Grímsfjall volcano caldera lake. This is a tiny glacier flood according to the news, with the glacier on top of the lake only having dropped around 5 meters so far.

This glacier flood is going into Gígjukvísl glacier river, at the moment Iceland Met Office doesn’t think there is any major danger from this glacier flood. The biggest risk at the moment is from volcano gases that have dissolved into the water and get released when the pressure drops of the water. The glacier water is already in Gígukvísl glacier river, no major changes are expected in that river due to how small this glacier flood is.

  1. Is a second glacier flood just going on? The Grímsfjall SIL station is showing nearly the same behaviour as on 20th August.
If so, it’s a small one, too.

    Another question:
The background noise (blue and green frequencies) are rising for +- 10 days. What’s the reason for that?

      1. Please supply the proof as the readings I see are saying your original proof is true. Thanks.

      2. The quality is only 50,5 on the new website. On the old website this earthquake has the magnitude of 1,3 with quality of 90,20.

    1. Either it’s just making up for the quiet days or something much more significant is happening….

  3. Looks like Bardy heard Mike lol quite the swarm around 15:00 local time !

  4. An eruption may occur from Grimsfjall in the next year or so. The intricacies of how this volcano works make it very interesting. The folks who study and pay attention to it know it well.

  5. Earthquake swarm has started in TFZ. I’m waiting for a IMO review of the earthquakes before I write an article about this earthquake swarm.
