This earthquake activity is due to magma flowing into Öræfajökull volcano at depth. What that depth is unclear at the moment. This earthquake activity happens in pluses with quiet period between them.

Update on the donation for new hardware

Thanks to donations last week I almost have all the money to buy a Raspberry Shake seismometer. I am still missing around ~268€ in order to buy the Raspberry Shake station. With this new hardware I am going to be able to provide a lot better data from what I currently have. This includes I hope a spectrograph of an earthquake (I need a linux computer for this. I’ll set one up once I’ve moved to Spain). I can’t do that with my current old hardware and software. For those that have donated already. Thanks so much for the support. 🙂

  1. It has come to my attention that someone was trying to get my donations shut down by using stolen credit card information and donate small amounts to me. I got several of those donations and I made the decision to refund all of them as a security issue. One had been created as a automatic profile of monthly donations. I cancelled that profile. I got three donations like that and even if they were under different name. I suspect that it was the same scammer using three different stolen credit cards.

I hope the police arrest that person soon as possible. Because this is a criminal activity and the PayPal has all the information for the police to deal with this matter and so does the bank of the credit card that got stolen.

I hope this doesn’t happen again. But if it does. I have a policy in place on how to deal with it. As was done now. The amounts in question were just from 1,00€ to 3,00€ so it would not be noticed by the credit card owners. But one person did and cancelled (and got a refund) that payment with its bank and I got a notification from PayPal about what was going on.

  2. So sorry to read you have had to deal with this issue. Like you I hope the police are able to deal with the person concerned.

    1. I got fairly decent protection with PayPal on this. But due to how the PayPal refund system works it did cost me few cents to issue the refunds.
