This evening (21-September-2018) at 21:15 UTC a magnitude 3,0 earthquake happened in Öræfajökull volcano. This was followed by a swarm of earthquakes and largest earthquake after the magnitude 3,0 earthquake had a magnitude of 1,4 so far.

I expect the largest earthquake to have been felt in nearby farms that are close to Öræfajökull volcano (some are in it roots). In recent weeks the magnitude of earthquakes in Öræfajökull volcano has slowly been moving upwards. This change is not by much at the moment.

I read about it in some Swedish newspaper too.
Tony and Ian, all of the information available on this in Iceland points to the CO2 information being totally accurate. However, the volcano specialist who gave an interview to the British media is very upset, because she has been totally misquoted on important aspects. She expressly stated that the extremely high emissions did not, in themselves, mean an eruption was imminent. She explained other investigations would certainly be needed before this could be determined.
The British press adore sensationalist headlines and explosive photoshots (pun intended), and seem to care little how this reflects the facts stated by a volcanologist. If one reads all the way through, some balance is usually given, but often not enough to provide an accurate picture to most readers. (I am a Brit who now lives in Iceland.)
I realise the above reply seems to be in the wrong place, it is the Katla CO2 levels and reporting that I am referring to, not Öræfajökull.

With this volcanoes track record of giving little notice before erupting should we be watching closely now.
