Magnitude 5,9 earthquake deep on the on the Reykjanes ridge on 10-September-2017

Yesterday (10-September-2017) at 21:40 UTC a magnitude (Mw) 5,9 earthquake (EMSC information here) took place deep south on the Reykjanes ridge. No aftershocks have appeared on USGS or EMSC that I am aware of. They must have happened but due to distance from land this earthquake activity was not detected.

The distance this earthquake took place from Reykjavík is 1004 km. Only thing it did was to scare some fish at most. It is impossible to know if anything more happens at this location. It might or it might not.

Please remember to support my work with donations. I am now completely broke and there three weeks left of September. Thanks for the support. 🙂

  1. On 1 September, there were a few eq:s in approximately same location; magnitudes 4.7, 4.9 and 5.7, according to USGS.

    1. This is interesting. I normally don’t write about earthquakes this far from Iceland. It is however quiet at the moment in Iceland and nothing special to write about at the moment.

  2. Please remember to donate. This month might actually manage to make me completely broke and the situation is already so bad that I am going to change my tax set-up with Iceland (it is going to result in some minor issues with the Danish tax, nothing I hope won’t be a major problem).

  3. Does anyone here know what’s going on with the Conductivity at Mýrdalsjökull? Seems to be doing sharp spikes going upwards then moments later another sharp spike downwards before going up again, instead of the usual small spikes or gradual climb. Though the levels are still only around 150 and 170.
