There’s been some shaking coming from underneath Mýrdalsjökull in the last 12 hours. Maybe a sign that Katla is up to something!
2.7, 3.1 & 2.8 all within minutes of each other around 23:30 last night with many smaller follow-up tremors.

Right on cue, there’s a little hiccup from Katla, not sure if this is significant or just ordinary background earthquakes, the ‘other’ blog mentions the shallow depth.
With Katla’s murmurings I guess the Icelandic volcano sweepstake (no money involved) ‘starts’ again! 🙂
My money is still on Bardarbunga, but then I never win any bets at all.lol
And here we go:
Saturday 16.07.2016 04:59:19 64.649 -17.417 0.4 km 1.9 90.01 5.4 km E of Bárðarbunga
Saturday 16.07.2016 04:58:33 64.664 -17.412 1.1 km 1.0 47.45 6.1 km ENE of Bárðarbunga
Saturday 16.07.2016 04:56:09 64.688 -17.467 4.2 km 1.7 99.0 6.0 km NNE of Bárðarbunga
Saturday 16.07.2016 04:55:36 64.664 -17.412 2.1 km 2.4 99.0 6.1 km ENE of Bárðarbunga
Saturday 16.07.2016 04:53:26 64.678 -17.500 6.3 km 3.7 99.0 4.4 km NNE of Bárðarbunga
That 3.7 is a bit above the normal weekly 3’s
Working their way up? Seem to be getting closer to the surface.
The dualing volcanos, Katla and Bardarbunga. What will be the response at Bardarbunga now that Katla cherped back?
To be fair to Katla the weather has been bad over the south of Iceland during the last 24 hours so I imagine quite a lot of mini quakes will have been missed.
The big hiccup from Katla was followed by a jump on SEVERAL tremor graphs from all over, which makes me think that the fair lady is starting to feel waspish. Will plot those tomorrow, but it’s almost midnight here!
And Marion, I think you might be right: dueling volcanoes indeed!
Another deep one at katla almost 23km below…
Queue another swarm in the coming days??
And some grumbles from Askja, deep ones all 12-18 km down.
Can’t remember seeing Bardabunga so quiet, pretty much nothing happening, earthquake wise, since that green star a few days ago.

Tremor @ skrokkalda?
What is up with the tremor at west-vatnajokull?
Is Hamarinn up to something?
2x 3.2 near Katla…
2 x 3.2 just 8 minutes apart.
Hi all! Both at 0.1km. Is it the ice? Sorry about your loss Jón! Take your time, family is more important!
Hi! This is routine summer activity for Katla.

Yes that’s a curious cluster, the IMO isn’t giving it a 4.4, but I don’t recall any clusters here in recent memory, its well outside the fracture zone and not on the MAR.
Worth watching.
I think it is pretty spot on the MAR?
There you have it with these automated articles, even if it’s a direct hit, Jon’s authority is dearly missed.
In the meantime, let’s make Britain great again.
I know Jon doesn’t like any political discussion, so please no comments on that.
Z, you are correct, my apologies. I entered the coordinates wrongly.

Is Katla waking up?
Time for some rumbling in Iceland. But it takes normally 5 years from one to the next eruption. My bet would be on Katla, as we had action all around with Eyafjallajökull, Grimsvötn and Bardabunga. Just Katla is missing.
My condolences, Jon. Hope you are well.
It’s so full of quietness, it seems nothing can stir things up
