Updates to PayPal buttons and new geophone

I don’t want to add long none-volcanic articles to this website. I did not want to do so due to length and the subject in question, so I did write it on my website called “Jón Frímann bloggar” and it can be found here. Please read it if you can.

New geophone going to be added

I plan on adding a new geophone to Hvammstangi soon. I don’t have exact date yet. This just using current hardware that I have to set-up this new station. I did get a computer to do this. It is just missing the hard drive and needs more ram and some version of Windows (maybe Win 8.1). I am looking into that cost, but at the moment I can’t afford it. This means that while I am going to be living in Hvammstangi there are going to be two geophones active in that area, once I get the other one up and running, allowing for higher resolution of any earthquakes that might take place in nearby area. I always have a geophone with me where I live to record earthquakes. Updates to webicorders website are going to uploaded soon, once I have finished working and updating it.

  2. Checked out the quake map and there seems to be lots of small quake activity in the last 48 hours. There is activity all along Iceland’s MAR at a low level, and wondering what may happen next is an interesting puzzle. BB and it’s latest eruption still seem active with many small quakes going on in the region in the last few days. I keep lurking about and try to keep up with the current Iceland rifting activity.

    1. The crust is adjusting to the stress changes. Expect earthquake activity in Bárðarbunga volcano for a long time. The rifting is has not stopped yet and that is going to continue for a long time.

      3. I think that Guðmunds­son’s and Jón’s views are consistent: activity in BB seems to have ended but the whole volcanic/tectonic event hasn’t. Compare the Krafla Fires: there were 21 rifting events between 1975 and 1984.

  3. I appreciate your updates. Having read your nearly daily info on Bárðarbunga truly gave me an overall understanding of what to expect upon my visit to Reykjavík last November. I fell in love with the island, mostly due to its geology and unpredictable weather, that I’ve begun studing the language so I may be able to read/translate their news on future geological/volcanic activites. I shop via Amazon quite a bit and will continue to support you via the link thru your site.

  5. As I said in another post, the swarm looks to be smaller or brief in nature and at Torfajokull somewhere, possibly northern side and mid to deep depth. Just speculations. Seismos are limited around Torfajokull north edge, so we will have to wait for manual plotting by IMO.
    Nothing major IMHO, but it is interesting to see how at SLY, the frequencies go into lower ranges more than usual. Either the quakes are further away perhaps in the dead zone, or a bit deeper, possibly a magmatic cavity filler below Torfajokull. No HT for now, but I would be surprised to see it.
