Here is finally an new blog post from me. This week has been busy. As I did move to Hvammstangi again for this summer. But I did move to Iceland on the 5. June 2011. But just for the next 1 to 3 years, depending on how things goes for me. My work is hard, so I might not often have energy to write new blog post during the week. But I am going to do my best.
Now, the earthquake information on what has been going on in Iceland for the past two weeks or so.
Katla volcano: Even after the harmonic tremor pulse last week. Nothing special has been going on in Katla volcano. But it did come to my attentions that Icelandic Met Office did notice that in Week 23 there have been explosions (mine for road work in the area). So when an “earthquake” appears in that area. It means that an mine explosion have taken place in that area. I do not know when they are going to stop mining operations in this area.
Presthnjúkar: There continues some earthquake activity in the Presthnjúkar area. This earthquake activity appears to be tectonic and nothing else. The latest earthquake swarm taking place there appear to be starting tonight. It is hard to be sure how it is going to develop over the past few hours.
Other: There is currently not a lot other thing going on in Iceland.
I hope to make an better post tomorrow. When I am well rested and focused.
Thanks for your posts. I like to follow the Iceland volcano activity, especially Katla, as a diversion. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations for all icelandic people on your independence day!
Jon has almost done his re-enactment of indepedance from Denmark Ha ha.
Alomost forgot it’s national day in Iceland, if anyone visits Iceland try & go around the national day (it does get quite busy, it was when i went a couple years ago), something for next year perhaps.
HI Jon and Thanks for latest Blog. I don’t know if it is just my PC playing up but I cannot get any pictures from this site http://www.ruv.is/. Normally I can get Hekla and Katla nice streaming cams. But for the last 3 days nothing. I am not sure if it is my windows media Player is not working.
Would be glad of help on this. Thanks
Hi Diana,
i have also had trouble getting Katla since guys worked on the station the other day
What did just happen in the Katla area? Is it mine or road work explotions?
beat me to it!
I was lucky 😉
What is going on at Katla? series of earthquakes over the last 20 minutes or so?
Or is this something serious. Several large eq:s are continuing to show up on Icelandic met office site. Tremor plots start to go up now as well. =0
Wow that looks like some serious shit is happening in Katla! Mining explosions with 3 on the Richter scale is quite a large explosion so something else is wrong I guess…
Sander
The mining is taking place in small area south of the glacier, not far from the main road in the area. They do not go into the glacier area it self. They don’t even come close to it.
This looks like an eruption sequence for Katla? No doubt the Iceland authorities will make an announcement if it looks like its happening soon.
Might this be a small or minor eruption or the start of something? it’s quite unusual that a swarm with such big quakes hits Katla.

Most of them have been downgraded, the M3.8 went to M1.7.
Katla webcam is offline for me.
We need more earthquakes for an eruption.. They are reviewing the quakes already and removed some of the larger ones.. We can only wait
Sander
Yes I see Sander. They are on the job which is good to know.
They look shallow what quakes they have left.

I am going to write an blog post about this now. Just give me few minutes. I was writing on my Icelandic blog and I did not notice this activity right away.
This is real, and the earthquake that I did so far record did show clear magma signature in it (LP earthquake).
New blog post is up!
Thanks for your comments my friends . I now do not have to mess about with the WMP ! Pity the cam is down. I am not a Katla monger but I have been drawn to the quakes around Myrdalsjokull for the week or two. Thank you Jon for your hard work.
