Strong earthquake and deep earthquake swarm in Bárðarbunga volcano

On Saturday (26-October-2019) a earthquake with a magnitude of 3,5 took place in Bárðarbunga volcano. This was a single earthquake and no more earthquake activity happened following this activity.

On Sunday (27-October-2019) a earthquake swarm started in Bárðarbunga volcano. This is a deep earthquake swarm with a depth from 20,2 km and up to 10,9 km on Sunday. All of the earthquakes in this swarm had a magnitude lower than Mw2,0.

Today (Monday 28-October-2019) the deep earthquake swarm continued in Bárðarbunga volcano. This earthquake swarm was larger in number of earthquakes happening. Depth was from 26 km to 15,5 km. This deep earthquake activity is connected to magma injection from deep magma reservoir that is below Bárðarbunga or a different one nearby. There is no way to know for sure what magma reservoir is feeding this earthquake activity. Often this deep earthquake activity is followed by a more intense earthquake activity in Bárðarbunga volcano it self. What the connection between those two events is remains a mystery. It is impossible to know if this increased earthquake activity means anything for now. Last times this has happened it has not resulted in anything other than earthquake activity over time period of several weeks.

This earthquake activity is now a common feature of Bárðarbunga volcano. This does not mean that an eruption is going to happen soon or is imminent since magma on the move to start an eruption is going to result in a far larger earthquake swarm than have been happening now.

Update on the Tjörnes Fracture Zone earthquake swarm

Today (21-October-2019) at 12:25 UTC the earthquake swarm at Tjörnes Fracture Zone (TFZ) seems to have stopped rather quickly. Why that is I don’t know since this is unusual end to a large earthquake swarm. Close to 500 earthquakes were recorded in this earthquake swarm.

The earthquake swarm as of this evening. Copyright of this image belongs to Icelandic Met Office.

Largest earthquakes in this earthquake swarm had a magnitudes of 3,5 / 3,2 and 3,1. Other earthquakes were smaller in magnitude. There are reports of the largest earthquakes being felt in Húsavík village according to the news in Iceland. The end of this earthquake swarm does not mean activity is over in this area. This earthquake activity was tectonic in nature and no signs of magma being the reason for this earthquake activity.

Earthquake swarm on eastern Tjörnes Fracture Zone (close to the coastline)

Today (19-October-2019) an earthquake swarm started in eastern Tjörnes Fracture Zone. This is close to the coastline so it might be felt if any large earthquake happens. This earthquake swarm appears to be gearing up to be a strong one with many earthquakes every few minutes.

I have limited internet until 1st of November and I might not be able to update this article if something happens in this earthquake swarm or if a large earthquake happens.

Magnitude Mw3,1 earthquake in Hamarinn volcano

Today (13-October-2019) at 17:44 UTC a magnitude Mw3,1 earthquake took place in Hamarinn volcano (no Global Volcanism Page, see Bárðarbunga volcano). There has been some earthquake activity in this area for last several weeks.

Last time there was this increase in earthquake activity in Hamarinn volcano an eruption happened in July 2011 without warning and no earthquake activity before it. That eruption remains unconfirmed by the professionals but I hold that we it did happened based on documented data (harmonic tremor, glacier flood).

Donations

Currently I only need 37259 ISK (263€/$292USD) to pay for the shipping of my belongings to Denmark. If all the amount is paid in time there won’t be any storage charge or at most a really small one (next week). I have to pay the storage charge before I get my belongings delivered. I unfortunately have to use tiny amount of this for transport and food. I plan on having that as minimal as possible. Thanks for the support. 🙂

Minor earthquake activity in Tungnafellsjökull volcano

Today (13-October-2019) a minor earthquake swarm took place in Tungnafellsjökull volcano. After the eruption in Bárðarbunga volcano there has been a ongoing earthquake activity in Tungnafellsjökull volcano, why that it is remains unexplained. There are suggestion in recorded data that magma is moving inside the volcano at slow rate but that remains unclear for now.

Tungnafellsjökull volcano has no known eruption history in last 12000 years so its impossible to know what signs if any appears before an eruption happens. Currently there are no clear signs that Tungnafellsjökull volcano is preparing for an eruption. This might just be after-effect of the eruption in Bárðarbunga volcano that placed a lot of crustal strain on Tungafellsjökull volcano and resulted in a lot of earthquake activity in that volcano during the early start of that eruption in Bárðarbunga volcano.

Donations

Currently there is only need for about 37.259 ISK (263€/$292USD) until I have all the money needed for paying for moving of my belongings and to get them delivered to me on time without having to pay a lot of storage charges (if any). Unfortunately I have to use tiny amount of this money to pay for transport and little food costs in Iceland and Denmark. I am going to keep that amount to absolute minimal amount. Thanks for the support. 🙂

Minor earthquake activity in Krafla volcano

Today (12-October-2019) during the night there was a small earthquake activity in Krafla volcano. This earthquake activity is minor and largest earthquake had a magnitude of Mw1,0 and all other earthquakes were smaller in magnitude.

There is a chance this earthquake activity is the result of water being pumped into the crust under high pressure. If that’s not the case this is just normal tectonic earthquake activity that sometimes happens in this area.

As I did explain here in this article my move to Denmark has hit a little problem. The problem is that my cost estimates were under the plan that I had and now I am currently in need of 375€ in order the pay for the cost of moving my belongings to Denmark. Any support to help me cover the remaining cost is welcomed. The sooner I can pay the transport cost the cheaper it is going to be for me, since storage charges are going to be added if I have to wait until 1st November to pay the transport cost of my belongings. This also delays me in many ways since all my hardware is now in transit and I can’t have access to it until I pay the transport cost of my belongings. Thanks for the support. 🙂

Donations needed for moving

I hate to ask for this but I don’t have any other options. I also hate the fact that I am poor.

Currently I am moving to Denmark and I have hit a problem. The total cost of moving my belongings is 329.140 ISK (2.390€/2.642USD). I can cover about half my self. I get a little loan increase from my bank and what is missing is 88.446 ISK (643€/705USD) to fully pay the bill for the moving. I won’t get my belongings until I pay the moving cost in full.

If anyone can help me with this with a donation that is welcomed. This high cost was unexpected and I was not expecting it to get this high. Thanks for the help. 🙂

Update

I managed to make a deal with the company that is moving my belongings to Denmark. I can pay at the latest on 1st of November but this adds storage fees on top for 11 to 14 days until I get my belongings delivered. I have also seen that my October plan is not going according to what I had hoped for so any donation towards helping me in October are also welcomed.

Update two

The amount I need to pay the moving bill is half way there already. What is missing is just 53.048 ISK (375€/$413USD). If this happens quickly enough then I won’t have to pay any storage cost of my belongings. That cost is 417 DKK (55,82€) a week and starts counting soon as my belongings are in my moving company house (after clearing customs).

Update three

The amount needed until I can pay the transport cost of my belongings is now 37.259 ISK or 263€/$292USD. I am having tiny problems with money on how to buy food for the rest of the month because of this whole thing being such a large problem for me. There are cheap options for me in Denmark when it comes to food that I am going to use since the are low priced food stores in Sønderborg. The main thing for me now is to pay the transport bill so I can get my belongings before I have to start paying storage charges (417 DKK/55,83€ a week) and I can’t do that without donation. There have been negative comments about this situation and me asking for help. I’ve decided to ignore those comments.

Update four

When this is written on 16th of October I am only missing 30816 ISK (218€/$241USD) until I can pay the cost of the transporting my belongings to Denmark. I am still working on having to afford food until the end of the month but there are cheap options that I have in Denmark and that is a solution for me.

Update five

When this is written only 25688 ISK (180€/$201USD) is needed until I can pay the transport bill of my belongings if there is no additional storage charges that are 417 DKK a week (55,82€). This is almost here with the help of donations. Thanks for the support. 🙂

Update six

I did get some additional loan from the bank that I have to pay back soon as possible but no later than on 1st of November. This allowed me to pay the transport bill of my belongings to Denmark. I hope there are no storage charges of my belongings because of this delay and if they are I don’t expect them to be super high because I asked for delivery of my belongings soon as they clear the customs process in Denmark.

Any donation to pay back the extra loan are welcomed. Thanks for the support. 🙂

Update seven

I got my belongings delivered. I also got a extra cost of 9719 ISK (70,06€/$77,65USD). It looks like the storage charge I was fearing I might have to pay since there was a delay of delivery of my belongings for unknown reasons to me (I have sent a inquiry into why this charge is). This might also be a extra charge because delivery was difficult at my location for the delivery truck and that was extra work for the driver.

I have also bought three used tables at the used market for the total cost of 550 DKK (73,63€/$81,60USD). I mention this because I had to use donations for the move to pay for the tables. They are used and cheap as I was able to get the with transport to my location (150 DKK/20€/$22,26USD) since I don’t own a car to transport such items or a transport on my bicycle for such moving inside the town of Sønderborg.

This is all almost finished and I’ll soon unpin this article. I won’t stop being poor thought but I do plan on to get extra work soon in Denmark delivery papers and such. That should make my money situation slight better. Its a maximum of four days work if I can get it. I might just end up getting one or two days a week. How that works I just have to find out. Its a minimum wage job but it is going to help me living in Denmark.

I’ll get a fixed internet soon (cable internet) and that means I can start writing normally about what is going on in Iceland when the quiet period is not ongoing.

Update eight (final update)

It turns out that I don’t have to pay the 9719 ISK (70,06€/$77,65USD) because it was something I had already paid. This was discovered when I did send the inquiry into why I was paying this amount.

This is the final update about this problem I’ve been having.

Thanks for the support. 🙂

Magnitude 3,8 earthquake in Bárðarbunga volcano

Today (4-Oktober-2019) at 16:31 UTC a magnitude Mw3,8 earthquake took place in Bárðarbunga volcano. This is the second earthquake in Bárðarbunga volcano in less than 24 hours. Like the earlier earthquake there has been no aftershock activity following this earthquake.

There has been minor earthquake activity in other parts of Bárðarbunga volcano. I don’t know if that activity is connected to the stronger earthquake activity.

Magnitude 3,1 earthquake in Bárðarbunga volcano

Today (3-oktober-2019) at 20:33 UTC a magnitude 3,1 earthquake took place in Bárðarbunga volcano.
