Volcano and earthquake activity in Iceland
Yesterday (30. January 2023) had two earthquakes with magnitude Mw3,2 far off the coast on the Reykjanes ridge. Only one smaller earthquake was detected. Distance from the SIL network makes detection of smaller earthquakes is impossible or really difficult.
Besides this earthquake activity, it remains quiet in Iceland. Bad weather has also been blocking detection of earthquake activity for the last two weeks.
Few inflation related earthquakes have taken place in Bárðarbunga volcano this evening. This earthquake activity shows that Bárðarbunga volcano continues to inflate at a fast rate since end of the eruption in February 2015.

Early morning of 7. January 2023 an earthquake swarm took place in Brennisteinsfjöll volcano. All of the earthquakes are small in magnitude and largest earthquake had a automatic magnitude of Mw1,0. Depth of this earthquakes is from 7 km and down to 9,5 km depth.

Today (6. January 2023) an earthquake swarm started in Reykjanes volcano close to Reykjanestá area. Largest earthquake had a magnitude of Mw3,0 at 00:31 UTC. Other earthquake have been smaller in magnitude.

Today (27. December 2022) an earthquake swarm took place in Fagradalsfjall volcano. This earthquake swarm was small in magnitude, as most earthquake swarms are in Fagardalsfjall volcano.

Yesterday (26. December 2022) an earthquake swarm took place in Reykjanes volcano. Just on the Reykjanestá area. This earthquake swarm was mostly in the ocean and on the Reykjanes ridge but some earthquakes where on the Reykjanes peninsula on land.

During the night of 27. December 2022 an earthquake with magnitude of Mw3,2 took place in Grímsfjall volcano. This was just a single earthquake and no aftershocks or any other earthquake activity has taken place after this earthquake activity.

Today (24. December 2022) an small earthquake swarm took place in Fagradalsfjall volcano. Only one earthquake did reach magnitude of Mw1,0. Most depth in this earthquake swarm had a depth of 14,5 km and up to 6,8 km depth.

Today (21. December 2022) an earthquake with magnitude of Mw3,4 took place in Krýsuvík-Trölladyngja volcano. This earthquake is because of inflation in Fagradalsfjall volcano. This possibly means that the inflation in Fagradalsfjall volcano is reaching critical point and might result in a eruption soon, when that point is reached is difficult to know.

Today (19. December 2022) and yesterday (18. December 2022) an earthquake swarm took place 3 km north of Grindavík town in the Reykjanes volcano. Largest earthquake had a magnitude of Mw2,9 and was felt in Grindavík. Earthquakes with magnitude Mw2,0 are felt in Grindavík, possibly even smaller earthquakes. At the writing of this article, this earthquake swarm is ongoing but weather is blocking almost all of the automatic earthquake detection.
