Earthquake swarm east of Grímsey (TFZ) and in Grímsfjall volcano fissure swarm

Currently there is a minor earthquake swarm east of Grímsey Island in the Tjörnes Fracture Zone. So far the largest earthquake has had the magnitude of 2.9 according to Icelandic Meteorological Office reviewed earthquake overview. Earthquake swarms are common in this area of TFZ.

Grímsfjall and Hamarinn volcanoes

Some internesting earthquake activity is now taking place in Grímsfjall volcano (outside the main volcano). This earthquake activity is in the fissure swarm that extents away from Grímsfjall volcano in the direction of Katla volcano fissure swarm. There has also been interesting earthquake activity taking place in Hamarinn volcano (no GVP page). But Hamarinn volcano last had a minor eruption in July of the year 2011. So far nothing suggests anything of volcanic nature is about to take place.

At the moment it appears that nothing besides earthquakes is going to take place in Grímsfjall volcano. But it hard to be sure given how often Grímsfjall volcano erupts. I do not yet have enough data on what is happening in Hamarinn volcano to say what is taking place there. So for now. It must just be observed.

More volcano ash in the ash cloud from Eyjafjallajökull volcano according to a new study

According to an new study into the Eyjafjallajökull volcano ash cloud. It appears that more volcano ash was up in the air then originally estimated. The estimation now is that the amount of volcano ash was around 100 times more then expected during the eruption. This has serious implications to air travel in the future if there is a repeat of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption scenario. But most of Eyjafjallajökull volcano ash was small and fine volcano ash that did stay long time up in the air.

This is the conclusion in a study that was made by Mark Woodhouse (and more people) and is published in Journal of Geophysical Research. Sadly I do not have access to this study (I am too poor to do so). So I an only repeat what the Rúv News is saying about this study.

All quiet in Iceland for the moment

It seems that current quiet period in Iceland continues. So far there has not been a lot of earthquake activity during this week or last week. This is how it has been in Iceland for several weeks now. When it is going to change I do not know yet. But one day the quiet period is going to end.

This current lack of activity leaves me with little to write about at the moment. But I am going to try and write about something else while it is quiet like this in Iceland.

Earthquake swarm in Torfajökull volcano

Today (16.02.2013) at 15:11 UTC an earthquake swarm started in Torfajökull volcano. This is so far small earthquake swarm. With largest earthquake only having magnitude 2.6 (automatic result). Depth of this earthquake swarm is around 2 to 4 km. This earthquake swarm is taking place inside the volcano. So they might be magma related. But it is hard to know that for sure at the moment. This might just be normal tectonic earthquakes in this area. Earthquakes are common in this volcano. But major swarm activity does not seem to be for some reason.

It is hard to know exactly what happens next. But most often the earthquake activity in Torfajökull volcano stops after few hours. Last documented eruption in Torfajökull volcano took place in the year 1477 according to Global volcanism program (GVP). This earthquake activity appears clearly on my Heklubyggð geophone and Skeiðflöt geophone. The web site for my webicorders can be found here.

Donations and Amazon advertisements (how they work)

This blog is free. But running it is not. So I ask for donations to keep it going. Along with having advertisements on it from Amazon. There are two types of donations that people can use. The regular one. Where people can donate from 10 to 50€ monthly or 100 to 500€ once a year. It is also possible to donate free amount with the regular donation button. Every donation helps me running this web site and doing my job properly in keeping everyone up to date on what is taking place in Iceland.

Amazon advertisements

I did stop using Google Adsense in start of February 2013 when I planned going advertisement free. But after I got pointed out that might not be such a good idea. I added advertisements again to this blog. I was unable to get back into Google adsense for the reasons of not having enough content on my blog (no other reason given). I have a new Google adsense account. But that is just for my youtube channel so I can maybe make money of my youtube videos (I am not sure that is going to work in real terms. But I can always hope).

Unlike Google Adsense. Amazon advertisement works by sale, not by click or page views. This means people have to buy something so I can get any money from it. But I get 5.00 to 5.50% of the sale price. Sometimes that can go up to 10% of the sale price. Price of the product being bought does not matter. I always get this part of the sale from Amazon if people buy it from the Amazon advertisement I have on my blog(s) and webicorder web site. I setup Amazon advertisement based on where the traffic is coming from and I am going to rotate them regularly.

Just 700 earthquakes recorded in January 2013

According to Icelandic Meteorological Office. Just 700 earthquakes where recorded in January 2013. This is the least active month in Iceland since March 2012. This lack of earthquake activity has meant that I have not had a lot to write about on this blog here.

It is impossible to know if the quiet time is going to continue. But so far of February 2013 this has been the case. But I am sure when the activity picks up in Iceland it is going to pick up in a way that it is going to be noticed.

Advertisement added again to the blog

Sometimes I am such an confused person. But that is just the way I am sometimes (specially when I am stressed out because of my elongation money issue). But a reader left me a comment on not having advertisements. He made an argument that I should keep having advertisements on my blog. I have accepted that argument in full. So am going to have advertisements again on my blog. But just in limited amount (unlike before in my view). All Amazon related advertisements can be found here from now on. Not on my front page like before.

Thanks for understanding my issue on this matter. It won’t happen again. I am going to make sure of it.

Update 1: If I cannot get back into Google Adsense. I am just going to use Amazon advertisements before. While I do not get pr-click on Amazon. I get by sale with Amazon advertisements. I am not expecting to get back into Google Adsense. Since they have changed to rules or something like that. Not sure what is going on in that company. But it is none of my concern anyway.

Update 2: I didn’t get back to Google Adsense due to some new rules that claimed that I had “Insufficient content” on my blog. Why that is I do not know, since there is a lot of material on this blog and my other blogs. But traffic is low (it is claimed that Google Adsense now rejects blogs when that is the case. This has been claimed on many web sites that I have been reading up on this issue. This review progress appears to be automatic and done by robots. Not human beings). For that reason I am just going to be using Amazon (UK/DE/FR/ES/US/CA) advertisements. They work not by traffic. But by what is sold and shipped. So traffic is not a big factor in my income when using Amazon advertisement.

Minor earthquake swarm on Reykjanes Ridge

A minor earthquake swarm started on Reykjanes Ridge today. So far no earthquake has had the magnitude 3.0 or larger. The largest earthquake so far has had the magnitude 2.8. The depth of this earthquake swarm is around 4 to 7 km.

It is hard to know what happens with this earthquake swarm. But if any major changes happens with this earthquake swarm. I am going to post a blog post about it soon as possible.

I am sorry for lack of blog posts recently

I am sorry for lack of blog post recently. But the financial issues that I have been having have been taking up a lot of my time recently. I am not even close to resolve them. But I have now applied for a job that does not require any education as such. I have to do this. I have no other option. If I do not do this. I have to move back to Iceland and I rather do not want to do this. Since living in Bov, Padborg makes me feel like home.

The job I did apply for is to hire right away. That means if I get it I start the day after (or something like it). So the adjustment is going to be fast for me. This also means less blog posts for me and I am not going to be able to post close to real time information if something happens in Iceland, Canary Islands and Europe if anything happens. But that is just how it has to be. Since I cannot live in my current income in Denmark. So this is the way it has to be. I just really hope that I get this job since I really need it. I am going to post information if I get the job I did apply to or not. For reasons of security. I not going to tell people where I am going to be working. If I get the job to start with.

No advertisement on my blogs and webicorder websites anymore

This blog is now advertisement free (all my blogs are now advertisement free). I did do this since advertisements where not really giving me high income. They where also taking up a lot of space on my blog and influencing the loading time of this website for people. I am instead going to relay on donations from people to keep this blog running. But I have to deal with some cost running this blog and my webicorder network in Iceland.

As always. People how donate get an e-book from me when I have something ready on that front. But it takes time for me to write books. As I have to allow creative matters work on it’s own when it comes to ideas and such things.
