The largest earthquake was felt over a large area. A swarm of small earthquakes started soon after the largest earthquake and this swarm was active for few hours.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/201216_2010.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/201216_2010.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8832\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/201216_2010.png 540w, https:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/201216_2010-300x222.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe green star shows the area of activity early morning in Reykjanes volcano. <em>Copyright of this image belongs to Icelandic Met Office.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A second smaller earthquake swarm started just north of Grindv\u00edk town few hours after the earthquake swarm close to Reykjanest\u00e1. GPS data for the area doesn&#8217;t seems to have updated on the web and because of that I don&#8217;t know if the area is entering new inflation phase or not.
