{"id":7590,"date":"2018-07-14T11:05:25","date_gmt":"2018-07-14T09:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/?p=7590"},"modified":"2018-07-14T11:12:44","modified_gmt":"2018-07-14T09:12:44","slug":"oraefajokull-volcano-is-inflating-and-preparing-for-an-eruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/?p=7590","title":{"rendered":"\u00d6r\u00e6faj\u00f6kull volcano is inflating and preparing for an eruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almannavarnir.is\/english\/english-news\/status-of-oraefajokull-volcano-july-13-2018\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> sent out yesterday (13-July-2018) by Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management it is made clear that <a href=\"https:\/\/volcano.si.edu\/volcano.cfm?vn=374010\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00d6r\u00e6faj\u00f6kull<\/a> volcano is now inflating at considerable rate.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment the amount of magma accumulated inside the mountain is equal to the volume that accumulated inside <a href=\"https:\/\/volcano.si.edu\/volcano.cfm?vn=372020\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull<\/a> volcano before it erupted in 2010. At the moment \u00d6r\u00e6faj\u00f6kull volcano continues to collect magma and each time a magma injection happens into \u00d6r\u00e6faj\u00f6kull volcano an earthquake swarm happens.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment there are no signs that an eruption is imminent. That might change without warning but I do expect to see earthquakes in the thousands before an eruption happens in \u00d6r\u00e6faj\u00f6kull volcano.
