But SISZ overlaps this area to some extend. So large earthquakes do happen in this area of Iceland on regular basis. This earthquake was felt in Reykjav\u00edk area, south Iceland and some part of western Iceland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/120830_1715.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/120830_1715.jpeg\" alt=\"\" title=\"120830_1715\" width=\"540\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2873\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/120830_1715.jpeg 540w, https:\/\/icelandgeology.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/120830_1715-300x222.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe earthquake location and the following aftershocks. <em>Copyright of this image belongs to Icelandic Meteorological Office.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In around 30 aftershocks have been detected in the area. More aftershock activity in this area cannot be ruled out. But earthquake activity in this area of Brennisteinsfj\u00f6ll volcano did stop around 15:49 UTC. No aftershocks did go above 2.0 in magnitude.
