Since yesterday (10-November-2018) and today (11-November-2018) there has been a earthquake swarm in Tjörnes Fracture Zone (TFZ). Largest earthquake in this swarm had a magnitude of 3,0. All other earthquakes have been smaller in magnitude. At this moment around 130 earthquakes have been recorded in this earthquake swarm. There are no reports of earthquakes in this swarm being felt by nearby population areas.

This earthquake swarm seems be ongoing, even if it has slowed down at them moment. It is a question if it is going to continue or stop in the next few hours to days.

Today (6-November-2018) there has been a minor earthquake swarm in Tjörnes Fractures Zone (TFZ). Largest earthquakes in this swarm had a magnitude of 2,7 and 2,6. Other earthquakes that have happened so far have been smaller in magnitude.

This earthquake swarm seems to be mostly over at the moment. There is a good change it might resume at later time, if it isn’t completely over now. New earthquake swarm might also start in this same area without warning. It is impossible to know for sure what happens next in Tjörnes Fracture Zone.

At 21:10 UTC a earthquake swarm started in Tjörnes Fracture Zone just north of Gögurtá. Largest earthquake so far had a magnitude of 3,7. Other earthquakes so far have been smaller in magnitude so far. That might change without warning.

There is some mislocation on the map at the moment due to the automatic location system at Icelandic Met Office website.

Since my geophone at Böðvarshólar is down due to a failed computer and I cannot afford Raspberry shake sensor (weatherproof type) only the largest earthquakes are going to be recorded at Dellukot geophone.

At 22:41 UTC a magnitude 3,3 earthquake took place 6 km north of an area called Gjögurtá. This earthquake had a magnitude of 3,3 and was followed by several smaller earthquakes. Activity seems to be ongoing at the moment.

Earthquake activity is common in this part of Iceland. There are no active volcanoes in this area and no known volcanism in this exact area.

Yesterday (05-April-2018) two earthquakes happened east of Grímsey island. The first earthquake had a magnitude of 3,0 (18:12 UTC) and the second earthquake had a magnitude of 3,3 (18:14 UTC). There is a good chance both earthquakes where felt in Grímsey island even if it was not reported.

Few smaller earthquakes followed the main earthquake events but since then everything has been quiet in this area.

Yesterday (31-March-2018) at 09:35 UTC a magnitude 3,2 earthquake happened 43 km west of Grímsey island. Due to distance from land this earthquake was not felt far as I know. Second largest earthquake had a magnitude of 2,6. All other earthquakes where smaller in magnitude.

There is also a developing earthquake swarm just off the coast of Gjögurtá (red dots on the image above). So far it has not resulted in any strong earthquake and its unclear if that is going to happen.

During the night a minor earthquake swarm took place on two parts of the Tjörnes Fracture Zone. The first earthquake swarm was just 19,9 km north-east of Siglufjörður village. Largest earthquake in that swarm had a magnitude of 3,1.

The second earthquake swarm was north-east of Grímsey Island and it was a minor swarm. Largest earthquake in that swarm had a magnitude of 2,8. Other earthquakes that happened were smaller in magnitude.

Early morning today (22-Februar-2018) at 07:34 UTC a magnitude 3,6 earthquake happened west of Kópasker village. This earthquake was felt in Kópasker and in 90 km distance from where it happened.

Before the main earthquake two fore-shocks took place according to Icelandic Met Office. It is not known if current sequence of event is going to result in a larger earthquake on Tjörnes Fracture Zone.

Moving to Iceland

I hope to confirm by that tomorrow I can confirm a new move date to Iceland. That new move date is on 31st May 2018 (hopefully). Any help with donations is welcomed since I am going to have problems in terms of money until I move from Denmark to Iceland.
